Phaco-Refractive Surgery
Phaco – Paediatric Ophthalmology
Phaco – Medical Retina
These programs are designed to provide immersive surgical training and academic enrichment, nurturing future leaders in ophthalmology.
Program Overview
Duration: 24 months (full-time, intensive training)
Venue: ASG Super Speciality Eye Hospital, Varanasi, India – a tertiary-care, high-volume center equipped with advanced phaco platforms, femtosecond lasers, refractive surgery suites, state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, and specialized pediatric and retina units.
Mentorship: Direct guidance under experienced and acclaimed subspecialty faculty :
Dr. Pratyush Ranjan (Phaco-refractive surgeon)
Dr. Kartikey Singh (Vitreoretina consultant)
Dr. Apeksha Agrawal (Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus specialist) with structured, progressive exposure to surgical and medical management of various ophthalmological conditions.
Core Training Modules
Phaco-Refractive Surgery
Stepwise mastery of phacoemulsification – basic to advanced techniques.
-Phaco machine optimization for maximum efficiency.
-Simplified IOL power calculation.
-Premium IOLs – toric, multifocal, EDOF, customized lenses.
-Complex cataract management: hard nuclei, small pupils, subluxation, pseudoexfoliation.
-Complication management: posterior capsular rupture, subluxated lenses.
Refractive Surgery:
-LASIK, PRK, SMILE – patient selection, surgical planning, and execution.
* ICL implantation and phakic IOLs.
* Cross-linking and refractive enhancements.
* Refractive diagnostics – corneal topography, aberrometry, biometry.
* Pre-operative assessment, post-operative care and complication management
Paediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship
-Evaluation and management of pediatric cataracts and refractive errors.
-Surgical training in pediatric cataract extraction and IOL planning and implantation.
-Strabismus: pre-operative evaluation, surgical correction, and complication handling.
-Management of amblyopia and pediatric vision therapy.
-Exposure to ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) screening, laser treatment, and multidisciplinary care.
-Counseling skills for parents/guardians and child-friendly communication techniques.
Medical Retina Fellowship
-In-depth training in retinal diagnostics: OCT, FFA, ICGA, B-scan ultrasonography.
-Management of diabetic retinopathy: laser photocoagulation, intravitreal injections (anti-VEGF, steroids).
-AMD and macular disorders: advanced diagnostic interpretation and treatment planning.
-Retinal vascular diseases and inflammatory conditions.
-ROP screening and treatment.
-Hands-on exposure to retinal lasers and intravitreal therapies.
-Multidisciplinary collaboration in systemic-retinal disease management.
Comprehensive Exposure for All Fellows
-Outpatient care: pre-op evaluation, counseling, post-op follow-up.
Surgical exposure: (Specific to the chosen fellowship)
-300+ cataract surgeries
-50+ refractive surgeries
-100+ pediatric cataract/strabismus cases
-500+ intravitreal injections
Academic training: case discussions, -journal clubs, surgical audits, and evidence-based updates.
-Research and publication support with opportunities to present at national/international conferences.
Eligibility Criteria
-MD/MS/DNB in Ophthalmology.
-Strong interest in the chosen fellowship stream.
-Proficiency in English and Hindi (mandatory) for effective patient communication.

-Online Common MCQ Test (60 MCQ based questions to be completed in 60 minutes)
-Online Interview by academic stalwarts of ASG Group
-Limited intake per fellowship category for focused training
Fellowship Benefits
Stipend:
INR 70,000 per month (Year 1)
INR 80,000 per month (Year 2)
-Certification: Awarded upon successful completion of fellowship.
-Hands-on training: High-volume exposure in respective fellowship streams.
-Professional Growth: Research support, national/international conference participation.
-Mentorship: Ongoing skill development and career guidance.
Important Information
Accommodation/Meals: To be arranged by fellows independently.
Attendance: Full-time program.
One – week off permitted
21 days of casual leave per academic year (non-carry-forward).
