Noteworthy Cases: When Skill Meets Compassion
1. A Child’s Second Chance at Sight
A six-year-old boy came to ASG with a complicated cataract and retinal detachment in his only seeing eye, having already lost the other. It was a race against time. Through a meticulous and high-risk surgery led by Dr. Pillay, the child’s sight—and future—was restored. Today, he’s back in school, embracing life with renewed hope.
2. Light for the Smallest Fighter
Born at just 650 grams, a premature infant developed aggressive ROP. Dr. Pillay administered timely anti-VEGF injections followed by a precision laser procedure. Today, she enjoys near-normal vision (6/9 in both eyes), studying in the second grade—a shining example of how pediatric ophthalmology saves not just lives, but childhoods.
3. Saving Sight, Saving Childhood
A 12-year-old girl presented with sudden bilateral vision loss. One eye was beyond recovery, but Dr. Pillay’s surgical intervention on the other restored functional vision (6/12). That single eye gave her back her education, her confidence, and her childhood.
4. From Darkness to Dignity
A 60-year-old woman with severe corneal decompensation and a damaged intraocular lens had lost the will to live. In a high-stakes IOL exchange surgery, Dr. Pillay restored vision in her only eye. She now lives independently, with renewed dignity and purpose. For her, and many like her, vision was more than sight—it was survival.
