How Many Types of Refractive Errors?

Refractive errors are a very common eye condition that makes your vision unclear. It occurs when the eye shape does not bend light correctly and focuses correctly on the retina, resulting in blurred vision.

 

There are Three Common Refractive Errors:

  • Myopia (nearsightedness)
  • Hyperopia (farsightedness)

Myopia

it is a common eye disorder in which far-away objects look unclear and blurry, but closer objects look clear. Myopia is caused by different factors, including hereditary, elongation of the cornea, and uncontrolled diabetes.

Symptoms: squinting and frowning. tired eyes, a severe headache, and difficulty seeing something from a distance.

 

Hyperopia

It is a common eye disorder in which nearby objects look unclear and blurry, but distant objects look clear. Hyperopia occurs when the cornea grows too short or there are some conditions in the shape of cornea.

Symptoms: Sore and tired eyes; headache; difficulty seeing close objects.

 

Astigmatism

It is a common vision condition which makes vision hazy, blurry and unclear. It occurs when the front layer of eye that is cornea and lens size of your eyes is different from normal size.

Symptoms: -distorted vision, trouble with night vision, squinting, eyestrain, headache.

 

How Refractive Errors Diagnosed

Refractive errors are diagnosed by a general eye exam or test involving the visual acuity test to measure vision at distances, refraction test to determine the correct prescription for glasses and slit lamp test to evaluate the structures of eyes.
