The Surgical Registrarship Program in Phacoemulsification is a 1-year structured training program designed to enhance surgical competency and clinical leadership skills.
First 6 Months:
Training under the direct supervision of an assigned mentor, focusing on surgical refinement, case selection, and step-by-step skill development.
Next 6 Months:
Placement at a high-volume surgical centre to provide independent surgical exposure, decision-making responsibility, and OPD management.
Initial Stipend: ₹1.1 lakh per month
Revision: After completion of six months, the stipend may be revised based on:
Surgical demonstration assessment
Mentor feedback and performance evaluation
The revised stipend can be increased up to ₹2 lakh per month.
All applicants are required to undergo a surgical assessment to evaluate their:
Basic surgical exposure
Hand–eye coordination
Understanding of surgical steps and safety protocols
Selection is strictly based on merit and surgical readiness.

Maintaining a detailed surgical logbook is mandatory.
The logbook must be updated regularly and will be reviewed monthly for all Surgical Registrars across centres.
The program focuses on comprehensive professional growth, including:
Skill upgradation to topical phacoemulsification
Exposure to premium intraocular lenses (IOLs)
Independent surgical and OPD responsibilities
Development of clinical leadership and decision-making skills
Candidates with prior Retina fellowship or formal Retina training may be considered for Surgical Registrarship – Retina at centres with an adequate Retina surgical load.
Each training centre must have a functioning surgical camera.
All surgeries performed by Surgical Registrars must be recorded for academic review and assessment.
