Surgical Registrarship Program – Phacoemulsification

Program Duration & Structure

The Surgical Registrarship Program in Phacoemulsification is a 1-year structured training program designed to enhance surgical competency and clinical leadership skills.

  • First 6 Months:

    Training under the direct supervision of an assigned mentor, focusing on surgical refinement, case selection, and step-by-step skill development.

  • Next 6 Months:

    Placement at a high-volume surgical centre to provide independent surgical exposure, decision-making responsibility, and OPD management.

Stipend & Performance-Based Revision

  • Initial Stipend: ₹1.1 lakh per month

  • Revision: After completion of six months, the stipend may be revised based on:

    • Surgical demonstration assessment

    • Mentor feedback and performance evaluation

    The revised stipend can be increased up to ₹2 lakh per month.

Selection Process

All applicants are required to undergo a surgical assessment to evaluate their:

  • Basic surgical exposure

  • Hand–eye coordination

  • Understanding of surgical steps and safety protocols

Selection is strictly based on merit and surgical readiness.

Additional Requirements

  • Maintaining a detailed surgical logbook is mandatory.

  • The logbook must be updated regularly and will be reviewed monthly for all Surgical Registrars across centres.

Retina Surgical Registrarship (Eligibility-Based)

Candidates with prior Retina fellowship or formal Retina training may be considered for Surgical Registrarship – Retina at centres with an adequate Retina surgical load.

Infrastructure Requirements

  • Each training centre must have a functioning surgical camera.

  • All surgeries performed by Surgical Registrars must be recorded for academic review and assessment.
