Why Tears Are Essential for Healthy Eyes: Understanding Tear Film

Tears present themselves at the drop of a tear, in cutting an onion, or on stepping out into a strong wind. They are a microscopically thin film which is constantly refreshed with every blink. This tear film is to keep the cornea smooth, reduce friction and in turn help the eyes to stay comfortable during daily activities.

The National Eye Institute reports that tears which are what the eyes have for lubrication are meant to keep them moist and smooth, to help focus light and to protect against irritants like dirt and dust. Why Tears Are Important for Clear Vision

The cornea is the primary element which does the eye’s focus. For light to enter pure the cornea must be smooth. Artificial Tears and Eye Lubrication

Artificial tears which improve short term eye lubrication are very much used for mild symptoms. They vary in consistency, ingredients and preservative content.
