About Dr. Diwa Hamal (Lamichhane)
Dr. Diwa Hamal (Lamichhane) is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at NAMS and a Consultant in Cataract, Orbit, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Nepal Eye Hospital, Kathmandu.
She has performed over 20,000 eye surgeries, including complex cataract, eyelid, lacrimal, orbital, and cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Hamal completed her MD in Ophthalmology from KU, Pokhara, followed by fellowships in Orbit & Oculoplasty (Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology) and Anterior Segment Surgery (Biratnagar Eye Hospital).
She previously served as Head of the Quality Assurance Department and Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon at Biratnagar Eye Hospital for nearly a decade.
She is also a fellowship mentor under NAMS, actively training young ophthalmologists in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Hamal has numerous publications in national and international journals and is a peer reviewer for several ophthalmology publications.
She has been an invited speaker and trainer at leading conferences across Asia, including India, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Her special interests include cataract surgery, Blepharoplasty, ptosis correction, lacrimal and orbital surgery, Endoscopic endonasal DCR surgery, cosmetic eyelid procedures and Botox
In addition to clinical work, she collaborates with SEVA Foundation Nepal to improve patient safety and quality in eye care nationwide.
