About Dr. Koushik Tripathy
Dr. Koushik Tripathy currently serves as the Consultant-in-Charge at ASG Eye Hospital, BT Road, Kolkata, India, and concurrently holds the position of Secretary (Academic Cell) within the same organization. He earned his Senior Residency (clinical fellowship) in Vitreoretinal and Uvea from Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. Dr. Tripathy completed his MBBS at Medical College, Kolkata, followed by an MD (Ophthalmology) from AIIMS, recognized as the apex institute of ophthalmology in India. He successfully passed the Diplomate of National Board (DNB, Ophthalmology) examination in December 2013.
A Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology (FICO) in London, Dr. Tripathy achieved the distinction of Fellow All India Collegium of Ophthalmology (FAICO) in Uvea and Retina-Vitreous in 2014. Additionally, he was conferred with the prestigious MNAMS degree (Member of National Academy of Medical Sciences) and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ophthalmology), Glasgow, United Kingdom. In 2018, he passed the subspecialty exam of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) in Medical and Surgical Retina, and Uveitis.
Dr. Tripathy is actively involved in academics and research, holding the position of Associate Professor at the Muthusamy Virtual University of Post-Graduate Ophthalmology. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in both national and international journals and serves as the Associate Editor (Ophthalmology) of Clinical Case Reports, a journal published by Wiley. Dr. Tripathy is an avid contributor to Wikipedia and Eyewiki, having won the ‘International Ophthalmologist Contest’ of Eyewiki in 2017 and 2020. He currently serves as the Editor of the Retina/Vitreous section of the Eyewiki.
His editorial responsibilities extend to being the Editor-in-Chief of the Ophthalmology Section at Statpearls Publishing, Florida, which specializes in publishing PubMed-indexed review articles. Dr. Tripathy is also the team leader of the Medicolegal Working Group of the Young Ophthalmologists Society of India (YOSI).
In terms of professional experience, Dr. Tripathy has been a Consultant in Vitreoretinal and Uvea at ASG Eye Hospital, BT Road, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, since 2018. He assumed the role of Editor-in-Chief of the Ophthalmology section at Statpearls Publishing, Florida, USA, in 2019 and has been associated with Wiley Publishers as the Associate Editor (Ophthalmology) of Clinical Case Reports from 2018 to 2023. Additionally, he has been an Associate Professor at the Muthusamy Virtual University of Post-Graduate Ophthalmology since 2018. Previous roles include Consultant (Vitreoretina and Uvea) at ICARE Eye Hospital and Post Graduate Institute, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, from 2017 to 2018, and Associate Consultant (Vitreoretina and Uvea) at Centre for Sight, New Delhi, India, from 2016 to 2017.
Dr. Tripathy’s expertise encompasses the medical and surgical management of various retinal disorders, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal venous occlusion, choroidal neovascular membrane, and rare genetic diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina. He is also well-versed in diagnosing and managing ocular inflammation, including uveitis, scleritis, and chorioretinitis.
